Alicia Keys & The Chainsmokers Debut New Albums In The Top 10 This Week
Bon Jovi may have captured the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 with their new album This House Is Not For Sale, but the Jersey-based band is not the only act with a new album in the top 10 this week.
Starting in second place is Alicia Keys’ latest, Here. The album is her sixth full-length, all of which have either kicked off in the top spot or immediately beneath. Here starts with just 50,000 equivalent units, which is a small opening for the R&B superstar, though it’s worth noting that so far, the album hasn’t produced any hit singles on the Hot 100.
Up to No. 3 on the tally is the original soundtrack that accompanies the movie Trolls. The animated film opened this past week, and it is already a hit with families across the country. The Trolls soundtrack got an amazing start back in May when Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop The Feeling!,” the album’s lead single, debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, and while it would only end up controlling the top spot for one frame, it stuck around in the top 10 for many weeks afterwards.Trolls moved 47,000 equivalent units in the past week.
A Pentatonix Christmas, the latest holiday collection from a cappella favorites Pentatonix, is back up this week to No. 4, after having dipped last time around. The album originally debuted at No. 3 on the tally, only to be pushed back down last week by a handful of new titles. A Pentatonix Christmas shifted another 46,000 equivalent units.
Also up again this week is Sremmlife 2, the sophomore effort from hip-hop duo Rae Sremmurd. The pair debuted the album at No. 5back in mid-August, and the record quickly began descending after that. This frame, the title rises from No. 21 all the way back to its peak thanks to the massive success of the single “Black Beatles,” which is currently starring in thousands of viral “mannequin challenge” videos online. This week, Sremmlife 2 moved 39,000 units, but it’s worth noting that only 3,000 of those are actual sales, with the rest coming from track equivalent and streaming equivalent units (meaning it’s doing exceptionally well when it comes to selling and streaming songs).
